Iceland
A topographic map of Iceland. The topography of the island was laser etched into plexi-glass using a 3D method to highlight the definition of the various peaks on the island. A second piece of plexi-glass was paid on to and the main road and various towns and cities were laser etched into that, and on the opposite side the degrees of longitude and latitude and lines indicating them were laser etched. Both sheets of plexi were placed on top of three pieces of wood that were made to look aged, stained and glued together. Everything was then wrapped with wire both horizontally and vertically along the lines of latitude and longitude, to hold the peice together and highlight lines, as well as introduce a third aesthetic element in a subtle way. The piece measured 18 x 20 inches.
